Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic roadmaps for grid modernization initiatives, incorporating smart grid technologies.
• Analyze existing grid infrastructure, identify areas for improvement, and recommend appropriate technological solutions.
• Evaluate and integrate advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), SCADA systems, and distribution automation technologies.
• Assess the impact of distributed energy resources (DERs) on grid stability and develop integration strategies.
• Collaborate remotely with internal engineering, operations, and IT teams to ensure seamless project execution.
• Engage with utility partners, technology vendors, and regulatory bodies to align modernization efforts.
• Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for proposed grid modernization projects.
• Develop technical specifications and performance requirements for new grid technologies.
• Monitor grid performance metrics and identify opportunities for optimization and enhanced reliability.
• Stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices in smart grid technology and grid modernization globally.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with a specialization in power systems or smart grids.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in power systems engineering, with a strong focus on grid modernization, smart grid technologies, or utility operations.
• Proven experience with technologies such as AMI, SCADA, DMS, EMS, and grid automation.
• Solid understanding of power system analysis, grid stability, and the integration of renewable energy sources.
• Experience in developing strategic plans and roadmaps for infrastructure upgrades.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment.
• Familiarity with data analytics and cybersecurity principles related to grid infrastructure.
• Knowledge of South African energy regulations and utility practices is a plus.
