Placements24 is seeking a Lead Grid Modernization Engineer for our client in Sandton, Gauteng. You will lead design and deployment of advanced grid technologies, driving reliability, efficiency, and renewable integration across a major utility.

The role requires a Master's in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems), 10+ years in power systems with 5+ in grid modernization, and proven leadership of engineering teams. Pr.Eng. designation is preferred.

About the Role

Our client is at the forefront of transforming the energy landscape and is actively seeking a Lead Grid Modernization Engineer to join their esteemed organization in Sandton, Gauteng . This pivotal role will spearhead the strategic development and implementation of advanced grid technologies aimed at enhancing reliability, efficiency, and integration of renewable energy sources. You will be responsible for driving innovation in grid infrastructure, ensuring our electrical network is robust and future-ready. The ideal candidate will bring extensive expertise in power systems engineering, a deep understanding of smart grid technologies, and a strong leadership capability to guide a team of talented engineers. Key Responsibilities

• Direct the design and implementation of grid modernization projects, including smart grid technologies, SCADA systems, and distributed energy resource integration.
• Develop and execute strategic plans for enhancing grid performance, resilience, and operational efficiency.
• Lead a team of engineers in the planning, design, and deployment of new grid infrastructure and upgrades.
• Conduct in-depth technical analysis, modeling, and simulations of power systems to identify areas for improvement.
• Collaborate with regulatory bodies, technology partners, and internal stakeholders to ensure project success and compliance.
• Oversee the procurement and integration of advanced grid control and monitoring systems.
• Develop and implement robust testing and commissioning procedures for new grid technologies.
• Provide expert technical advice and support on all aspects of grid modernization.
• Manage project budgets, timelines, and resources effectively to deliver projects on time and within scope.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems or a related field.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in power systems engineering, with at least 5 years specifically focused on grid modernization and smart grid technologies.
• Demonstrated experience in leading engineering teams and managing complex infrastructure projects.
• In-depth knowledge of SCADA, EMS, DMS, AMI systems, and grid automation.
• Proficiency in power system analysis software (e.g., PSS/E, ETAP) and simulation tools.
• Strong understanding of renewable energy integration challenges and solutions.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulatory frameworks.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) designation or equivalent is strongly preferred.
