You will analyze grid impacts, develop standards, and collaborate with grid operators and developers to enable clean energy uptake, while staying current with regulatory changes and innovative technologies.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
• 7+ years of experience in power system analysis, grid operations, or renewable energy integration.
• Deep understanding of grid codes, interconnection standards, and challenges with variable renewable energy.

Responsibilities

• Analyze the technical impacts of integrating renewable energy sources and energy storage into the power grid.
• Develop and refine interconnection standards, guidelines, and technical requirements for DERs.
• Collaborate with transmission and distribution operators to ensure grid stability and reliability during increased DER penetration.
• Perform power system studies, including short-circuit, stability, and power quality assessments.
• Provide technical guidance to project developers, utilities, and policymakers on grid integration challenges.

About the Role

Our client is seeking an expert Senior Grid Integration Specialist to join their distributed energy resources team, operating fully remotely across South Africa. This role is pivotal in ensuring the seamless and stable integration of renewable energy sources and other distributed generation technologies into the national grid. You will be responsible for analyzing grid impacts, developing interconnection standards, and collaborating with grid operators and developers to facilitate the uptake of clean energy. This is a unique opportunity for a highly skilled specialist to influence the modernization of the power grid from a flexible, remote position.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze the technical impacts of integrating renewable energy sources (solar, wind) and energy storage systems into the power grid.
• Develop and refine interconnection standards, guidelines, and technical requirements for distributed energy resources (DERs).
• Collaborate with transmission and distribution system operators to ensure grid stability and reliability during increased DER penetration.
• Perform power system studies, including short-circuit analysis, stability studies, and power quality assessments.
• Provide technical guidance and support to project developers, utilities, and policymakers on grid integration challenges.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and regulatory changes impacting grid integration.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in power system analysis, grid operations, or renewable energy integration.
• Deep understanding of grid codes, interconnection standards, and the technical challenges associated with integrating variable renewable energy.
• Proficiency in power system simulation software (e.g., PSS/E, PSCAD, DIgSILENT PowerFactory).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
• Proven ability to work effectively in a remote, collaborative team environment.
