Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Remote Environmental Compliance Officer to oversee environmental standards for its mining operations. You will develop, implement, and monitor environmental management systems to ensure compliance across sites while promoting sustainable mining practices.

This fully remote role requires a bachelor’s in environmental science or engineering, 5+ years of experience, and the ability to conduct remote audits, prepare regulatory reports, and train site teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or related field.
• Master's degree beneficial for advanced roles.
• 5+ years of experience in environmental management and compliance, preferably mining.
• In-depth knowledge of mining environmental legislation, regulations, and permitting.
• Experience with EIAs and EMPs.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Remote Environmental Compliance Officer to oversee environmental standards and regulations for their extensive mining operations. This position offers the unique advantage of a fully remote work environment , allowing you to contribute from anywhere while ensuring our client meets and exceeds all environmental obligations. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring environmental management systems, ensuring compliance across all sites, and fostering a culture of environmental stewardship within the organization. This role is critical for maintaining our client's social license to operate and commitment to sustainable mining practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive environmental management plans and policies to ensure compliance with national and international regulations.
• Conduct regular internal audits and site assessments (remotely where feasible, or coordinate site visits) to identify potential environmental risks and non-compliance issues.
• Monitor environmental performance indicators, analyze data, and prepare detailed compliance reports for regulatory bodies and internal management.
• Provide expert guidance and training to site-based teams on environmental best practices, permitting requirements, and mitigation strategies.
• Investigate and report on any environmental incidents, developing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Stay abreast of evolving environmental legislation and industry best practices relevant to the mining sector.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• A Master's degree is advantageous.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental management and compliance, preferably within the mining industry.
• In-depth knowledge of environmental legislation, regulations, and permitting processes applicable to mining operations.
• Proven ability to conduct remote audits and assessments using available technology and data.
• Experience with Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Environmental Management Plans (EMPs).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
