About the Role

Our client, a leader in innovative energy solutions, is seeking a highly experienced Remote Energy Storage Solutions Architect. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to design and implement advanced energy storage systems from anywhere. You will be responsible for the architectural design, technical specifications, and integration strategies for utility-scale, commercial, and industrial battery energy storage systems (BESS). The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of battery chemistries, power electronics, grid integration, and control systems, coupled with exceptional remote collaboration skills. You will drive the technical vision for our client's energy storage portfolio, contributing to a more resilient and sustainable energy future.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and design integrated energy storage solutions, including BESS, microgrids, and hybrid power systems.
• Develop technical specifications, system designs, and performance criteria for energy storage projects.
• Evaluate and select appropriate battery technologies, inverters, and balance-of-plant components.
• Oversee the integration of energy storage systems with renewable energy sources (solar, wind) and the grid.
• Develop control strategies and software logic for optimal system operation, energy management, and grid services.
• Conduct performance modeling, simulation, and system optimization studies.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to project teams, including engineers and project managers.
• Collaborate with external partners, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure seamless system implementation.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and grid codes.
• Stay at the forefront of emerging energy storage technologies and market trends.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in power systems engineering, with at least 5 years specifically focused on energy storage systems (BESS).
• Proven experience in architectural design and technical leadership of large-scale energy storage projects.
• In-depth knowledge of battery technologies (Li-ion, flow batteries), power electronics, and control systems.
• Experience with grid integration, microgrid design, and ancillary service provision.
• Proficiency in simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD) and energy modeling software.
• Strong understanding of grid codes and utility interconnection requirements.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical initiatives in a remote, collaborative environment.
• Based in George or willing to work remotely from any location within South Africa .
