Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer (Building Services) for a fully remote role across South Africa. You will design electrical systems for commercial, residential, and institutional projects, using AutoCAD or Revit MEP, with emphasis on lighting, power, earthing, and emergency power, while adhering to SANS/SABS codes.

The role requires independent project management, strong communication, and collaborative coordination with other disciplines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent is required.
• Proven experience in electrical design for building services.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP for electrical design.
• Strong knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and regulations (SANS/SABS).
• Experienced in lighting design software and power system analysis tools.
• Understanding of energy-efficient and sustainable building practices.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple remote projects.
• Detail-oriented with a commitment to high-quality designs.
• Experience in consulting engineering is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Design and specify electrical systems for buildings, including lighting, power, and fire alarm systems.
• Develop detailed electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications using CAD software.
• Perform load calculations, voltage drop, and short-circuit analyses.
• Ensure designs comply with national and local codes (SANS, SABS).
• Coordinate electrical designs with structural, mechanical, and architectural disciplines.
• Conduct site visits for condition assessments and construction administration (limited travel).
• Prepare technical reports and project documentation.
• Assist in tendering and procurement for electrical installations.
• Stay current with advancements in electrical building services technology and sustainable design.
• Provide technical support to construction teams during implementation.
