Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Remote Construction Safety Officer to oversee health and safety across multiple construction sites in South Africa. You will remotely monitor compliance, develop safety protocols, and guide site teams to uphold a safety-first culture.

The ideal candidate holds CSP or equivalent certification, has 3–5 years of experience in construction safety, and is proficient in risk assessment, incident reporting, and delivering remote training.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Remote Construction Safety Officer to ensure a safe working environment across all its construction sites. In this crucial role, you will remotely monitor site safety compliance, develop and implement safety protocols, and provide guidance to site teams. While the role is remote, it requires a proactive approach to site inspections (potentially through virtual means or occasional site visits as needed) and a strong understanding of the unique safety challenges in the construction sector. You will be a key advocate for a safety-first culture, helping to prevent accidents and ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations for projects in Durban and surrounding areas.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety plans for construction projects.
• Conduct remote and/or on-site safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions.
• Provide safety training and toolbox talks to site personnel, both virtually and potentially in-person.
• Ensure all construction activities adhere to relevant safety legislation and company policies.
• Maintain safety records, including incident reports, inspection logs, and training documentation for projects in KwaZulu-Natal.

Requirements

• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Construction Safety Officer or in a related role.
• In-depth knowledge of OHS Act, Construction Regulations, and other relevant safety legislation.
• Experience with risk assessment and hazard identification methodologies.
• Strong communication and training skills, capable of effectively conveying safety information remotely.
• Ability to work independently and proactively manage safety compliance across multiple sites.
