Job summary

Placements24 seeks a visionary Chief Aircraft Systems Architect to define the overarching architecture for future aircraft platforms. You will lead the integration of avionics, flight controls, power, and software while guiding a globally distributed engineering team from your remote location in Durban.

The role demands 15+ years in aerospace systems design, strong MBSE expertise (SysML, Cameo), and a deep understanding of FAA/EASA processes.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 15+ years of experience in aerospace systems design and architecture.
• Proficiency in defining and managing complex system architectures, including hardware–software integration.
• Proficiency with MBSE tools and methodologies (SysML, Cameo Systems Modeler).
• Extensive knowledge of aircraft subsystems, including avionics, flight control, networking, and power systems.
• Proven experience leading large, distributed engineering teams and driving technical strategy.
• Excellent understanding of aerospace regulations (FAA, EASA) and certification processes.
• Strong strategic thinking and remote collaboration communication.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the overall system architecture for new aircraft development programs, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and technological roadmaps.
• Lead the conceptualization, design, and integration of complex aircraft systems, including avionics, flight controls, power distribution, and environmental control systems.
• Establish robust systems engineering processes, standards, and best practices for a globally distributed team.
• Conduct in-depth trade studies and technology evaluations to identify and recommend optimal solutions for system requirements.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (software, hardware, mechanical, propulsion) to ensure coherent system integration and performance.
• Oversee the development of system requirements, architecture definitions, interface control documents, and verification plans.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, fostering innovation and technical excellence.
• Represent the company in technical discussions with partners, suppliers, and regulatory authorities remotely.
