Placements24 is seeking a Lead Chemical Process Engineer for a fully remote role within South Africa. You will spearhead the design, development, and optimization of innovative chemical processes from concept to commercialization, acting as the technical authority for project teams.

You will guide process scale-up, select equipment, and shape plant design while upholding rigorous safety, environmental, and economic standards.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Chemical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in chemical process development, design and scale-up.
• Strong leadership and project management capabilities.
• Experience with process hazard analyses (PHA) and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the conceptualization, design, and implementation of new chemical processes and technologies.
• Develop and manage process simulation models to predict performance and identify optimization opportunities.

• Ensure adherence to rigorous safety protocols, including HAZOP studies and risk assessments.
• Collaborate closely with R&D, project management, and operations teams in a remote setting.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance process efficiency, product quality, and cost reduction.
• Author and review technical documentation, including P&IDs, mass and energy balances, and process descriptions.
• Mentor and guide junior chemical engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry best practices in chemical engineering.
• Manage project timelines and budgets effectively for assigned process engineering tasks.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
• 10+ years of extensive experience in chemical process development, design, and scale-up.
• Demonstrated leadership experience in managing complex chemical engineering projects.
• Expertise in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, ChemCAD) and data analysis tools.
• Deep understanding of chemical reaction engineering, separation technologies, and process control.
• Proven ability to conduct and lead comprehensive process hazard analyses (PHA).
• Excellent remote communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
• Strong project management capabilities, including planning, scheduling, and cost control.
• Familiarity with digital transformation tools and Industry 4.0 concepts in chemical manufacturing is a plus.
• Must have a stable and reliable internet connection suitable for a remote role.
