Job summary

Takealot.com, South Africa’s leading online retailer, is seeking a Software Engineer (Python) to join our team. You will develop robust e‑commerce software, implement best practices, and contribute to new features while supporting 24/7 operations.

You will pair with teammates to design scalable solutions, work on RESTful APIs, microservices, and automated tests, and help drive engineering standards across Takealot Group.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or advanced diploma in CS, Engineering or related field.
• 5–10 years in a software development role.
• Strong CS fundamentals: OOP, data structures, algorithms.
• Robust production code writing experience.
• Proficient in Python; RESTful APIs/web services experience.
• Experience with SQL databases.
• Experience in Linux environments.

Responsibilities

• Design and build solutions to improve customer experience and support business users.
• Architect and design solutions with the team.
• Develop production code for high complexity and scale.
• Create and maintain automation tests.
• Respond to production incidents and fix bugs.
