Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly experienced Remote Aviation Safety Officer to drive the Safety Management System (SMS) across operations. This fully remote role focuses on developing, implementing, and managing SMS to ensure compliance with ICAO, SACAA, and other regulatory standards.

You will lead risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety training, while promoting a strong safety culture and continuous improvement across all aviation activities.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in aviation safety management.
• Possession of relevant aviation safety qualifications or certifications (e.g., SMS training).
• Knowledge of ICAO, SACAA regulations and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain the SMS in accordance with ICAO Annex 19 and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct regular risk assessments and hazard analyses for all operational areas and develop mitigations.
• Investigate aviation safety incidents and accidents with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver safety training programs to all personnel levels.
• Monitor safety performance through KPIs and provide regular safety reports to senior management.
• Maintain and update safety policies, procedures, and manuals to reflect current best practices.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and proactive Remote Aviation Safety Officer to champion safety initiatives across their operations. This fully remote position will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the Safety Management System (SMS) to ensure compliance with national and international aviation safety regulations. You will play a critical role in fostering a strong safety culture, conducting risk assessments, and promoting continuous improvement in all aspects of aviation safety, from ground operations to flight deck procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain the airline's Safety Management System (SMS) in accordance with ICAO Annex 19 and relevant regulatory requirements.
• Conduct regular risk assessments and hazard analyses for all operational areas, identifying potential safety concerns and developing mitigation strategies.
• Investigate aviation safety incidents and accidents, performing root cause analysis and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Develop and deliver safety training programs to all levels of personnel, promoting safety awareness and best practices.
• Monitor safety performance through key performance indicators (KPIs) and prepare regular safety reports for senior management.
• Maintain and update safety policies, procedures, and manuals to reflect current best practices and regulatory changes.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in aviation safety management, with a strong background in Safety Management Systems (SMS) .
• Possession of relevant aviation safety qualifications or certifications (e.g., recognized SMS training).
• In-depth knowledge of aviation regulations (e.g., ICAO, SACAA) and safety standards.
• Experience in incident investigation, root cause analysis, and risk management techniques.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
• Proven ability to communicate effectively and influence stakeholders across various departments in a remote setting.
