Job summary

Staff Solutions Recruitment seeks an experienced truck and trailer mechanic to support our client’s fleet. You will inspect, service, repair, and diagnose mechanical and electrical faults to keep vehicles roadworthy.

The role requires a Red Seal qualification, semi-trailer experience, and a Code 8 licence; Code 14 is advantageous. You will work to minimise downtime while ensuring safety standards are met.

Qualifications

• Red Seal qualification required.
• Experience maintaining trucks and trailers.
• Experience with semi-trailers and drawbar trailers.
• Fuel industry experience advantageous.
• Valid Code 8 driver’s licence; Code 14 an advantage.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Knowledge of vehicle and trailer safety and roadworthiness.

Responsibilities

• Inspect trucks and trailers for defects, wear and tear, safety risks and compliance issues.
• Perform routine servicing and preventative maintenance to minimise breakdowns and downtime.
• Repair and replace brakes, axles, bearings, suspension systems, couplings and other mechanical components.
• Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults, including trailer lighting, wiring and braking systems.
• Attend to roadside breakdowns and coordinate or follow up on the necessary repairs.
• Maintain accurate records of all servicing, inspections, repairs and maintenance performed.
• Ensure all work complies with relevant safety standards, legal requirements and company procedures.
• Identify potential mechanical issues and recommend cost-effective repair solutions.
• Work efficiently to minimise vehicle downtime and ensure trucks and trailers remain roadworthy and operational.

Requirements of the Job

• Red Seal qualification as a Mechanic.
• Proven experience in the maintenance and repair of trucks and trailers.
• Experience working with semi-trailers and drawbar trailers is essential.
• Experience within the fuel industry will be highly advantageous.
• Valid Code 8 driver's licence; a Code 14 driver's licence will be an advantage.
• Strong mechanical fault-finding, diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Good understanding of vehicle and trailer safety, maintenance standards and roadworthiness requirements.
• Ability to identify cost-effective repair solutions while minimising operational downtime.
