Job summary

Ithemba Recruitment- Sourcing Top Talent is seeking a skilled Heavy Vehicle Mechanic in Cape Town to service and repair light and heavy trucks and trailers. You will diagnose, repair, and test using diagnostic tools, while keeping a clean, safe workshop and coordinating with branches.

Requirements include 5+ years on commercial vehicles, matric in English, a valid drivers license and PrDP, own transport, and willingness to travel CPT to PLZ/GRJ as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years experience on both light and heavy commercial vehicles.
  • Basic automotive electrical experience.
  • Tyre fitment experience.
  • Fuelling of vehicles.
  • General maintenance.
  • Basic airbrakes knowledge.
  • Prepared for 24 hours call out and breakdowns.
  • Matric Certificate – literate in English.
  • Excellent telephone and written communication; problem solving.
  • Own transport with valid Drivers Licence and PrDP.
  • Willing to travel between branches CPT to PLZ/GRJ.

Responsibilities

  • Keeps management aware of mechanical repair problems as they occur.
  • Assisting technician mechanics in performing technical activities.
  • Maintains an organized neat and safe vehicle repair bay.
  • Drives tractor/trailers and/or trucks for test drives or returns.
  • Inspects, analyzes, troubleshoots, diagnoses and repairs heavy duty trucks and trailers.
  • Welds and fabricates parts as needed for repairs.
  • Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems such as brakes, belts, pumps, transmissions.
  • Tests vehicle operation to confirm safety.
  • Tests specific parts and systems for proper function.
  • Identifies mechanical problems visually or with diagnostic equipment.
  • Performs hydraulic and pneumatic troubleshooting and repair.
  • Performs routine and preventive maintenance including oil changes and tune-ups.
  • Performs mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repair of equipment.

Job description

  • Driving of Tractor/Trailers and/or Trucks for purposes of test drives and/or the return of vehicles to the various of the organisations facilities;
  • Other duties as required;
  • Inspect, analyze, troubleshoot, diagnose and perform repairs for Heavy Duty Truck Tractors, Trucks and Trailers;
  • Welding and metal fabrication of parts in need of repair;
  • Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts;
  • Test drives vehicle to confirm safe and proper operation;
  • Performs tests on specific parts and systems to ensure proper function;
  • Identifies mechanical problems either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment;
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic troubleshooting and repair;
  • Performs routine and preventive maintenance including oil changes and tune-ups;
  • Perform mechanical and electrical trouble shooting and repair of equipment;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications, experience and skills:
  • Minimum of 5 years experience on both light and heavy commercial vehicles

  • Basic airbrakes knowledge
  • Prepared for 24 hours call out and break downs
  • Matric Certificate - Literate, read and write English
  • Excellent telephone, communication (oral and written), listening and problem solving skills
