The Elite Job is currently seeking a dedicated and physically capable Ramp Agent – Cargo & Luggage Handling to join our dynamic team at Durban International Airport. This position plays a crucial role in the smooth, timely, and secure handling of passenger luggage and air cargo. You will be responsible for loading, unloading, and transporting cargo and baggage between the aircraft, terminals, and warehouses while ensuring safety, accuracy, and efficiency in all ground operations.
Load and unload luggage and cargo safely onto and from aircraft.
Operate ground support equipment including tugs, belt loaders, and baggage carts.
Safely transport cargo and luggage to and from aircraft and airport terminals.
Ensure accurate sorting, tagging, and tracking of baggage.
Assist with aircraft marshaling and chocking as required.
Follow all airport and airline safety procedures and regulations.
Communicate effectively with team members and ground control for on-time departures.
Perform inspections and basic maintenance of ground equipment.
Handle oversized or special baggage in accordance with company policies.
Work under varying weather conditions and in time-sensitive situations.
Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent.
Valid drivers license (Code B or higher).
Clear criminal record and ability to pass airport security checks.
Physically fit with the ability to lift heavy luggage and cargo.
Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
Excellent team player with strong interpersonal communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays.
Prior experience in ramp services, cargo handling, or aviation ground support is highly advantageous but not essential.
On-the-job training will be provided for candidates with no previous experience but who meet physical and security requirements.
Shifts are scheduled on a rotational basis, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
Full-time (40 – 48 hours per week depending on operational demand).
Knowledge of airport ramp operations and ground service equipment is a plus.
Ability to operate motorized vehicles and equipment safely.
Familiarity with baggage handling systems and aviation safety standards.
Basic computer literacy is an advantage for reporting and documentation purposes.
