Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its R&D team in a hybrid role in Paarl, Western Cape. The candidate will translate research concepts into tangible mechanical designs, work with prototyping and testing, and collaborate with materials scientists and engineers.

The role emphasizes hands-on prototyping, CAD modeling, and simulation to advance product pipelines and explore new market opportunities in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related field with an R&D focus.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in mechanical design and development, with significant R&D project involvement.
• Expertise in CAD software (SolidWorks, Fusion 360) and simulation tools (ANSYS).
• Strong understanding of material properties, advanced manufacturing techniques, and testing methodologies.
• Proven experience in building and testing functional prototypes.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and creative thinking skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively in a hybrid team environment.

Responsabilités

• Design, develop, and prototype novel mechanical systems and components for R&D projects.
• Utilize CAD to create detailed 3D models, drawings, and renderings.
• Perform FEA and thermal simulations to assess design feasibility and performance.
• Build and test prototypes and document results.
• Collaborate with scientists and engineers to meet project objectives.
• Specify materials and manufacturing processes for prototypes and low-volume production.
• Troubleshoot design and fabrication challenges in R&D.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations for project reviews.
• Stay updated on emerging mechanical engineering tech and trends.
• Contribute to IP portfolio through invention disclosures.
