Job summary

Pump and Abrasion Technologies is seeking a Quality Control Support to assist with inspections, measurements, documentation, and compliance checks on slurry pumps and components to ensure products meet specifications and standards.

You will work with production teams to maintain quality records, report non-conformances, and support CAPA activities, while upholding health and safety in the workshop.

Qualifications

  • Completed matric with Maths as a subject.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a quality control role.

Responsibilities

Job description

JOB PURPOSE

To support the Quality Control function by assisting with inspections, measurements, documentation, and compliance checks on slurry pumps, pump components, castings, and assemblies to ensure all products meet company standards, engineering drawings, and customer specifications.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. INSPECTION & MEASUREMENT

Assist with incoming inspection of raw materials, castings, rubber liners, impellers, shafts, and wear parts.

Conduct in-process inspections during machining, assembly, and fitting of slurry pumps.

Perform final inspection of completed pumps and assemblies before dispatch.

Use measuring instruments such as:

  • Vernier calipers
  • Micrometers
  • Bore gauges
  • Depth gauges
  • Dial indicators
  • Check tolerances against engineering drawings and specifications.

2. DOCUMENTATION & REPORTING

  • Record inspection results on QC checklists, inspection reports, and NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports).
  • Assist in maintaining quality records, traceability documents, and inspection logs.
  • Report non-conformances, defects, or deviations to the QC Inspector or Manager.
  • Support root cause analysis by providing inspection data when required.

3. COMPLIANCE & STANDARDS

  • Ensure inspections comply with ISO 9001 quality management system requirements.
  • Verify that products meet customer specifications, internal standards, and industry norms.
  • Assist with calibration checks and ensure measuring equipment is within valid calibration.
  • Help maintain cleanliness and control in inspection areas.

4. PRODUCTION & WORKSHOP SUPPORT

  • Liaise with production, machining, assembly, and stores teams regarding quality issues.
  • Assist in identifying recurring defects in:
    • Wear parts
    • Machined components
    • Rubber and metal liners
    • Shaft and bearing assemblies
    • Support corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

5. HEALTH, SAFETY & HOUSEKEEPING

  • Adhere to workshop health and safety procedures at all times.
  • Use PPE correctly during inspections and workshop activities.
  • Maintain a clean, organized QC and inspection area.

6. QUALIFICAIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Completed matric with MATHS as a subject
  • 1-2 years of experience in a quality control role
