Job summary

Pnet is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic for our Bloemfontein workshop. You will inspect, diagnose and repair diesel-powered heavy vehicles, focusing on engines, transmissions, brakes and electrical systems. Routine maintenance, diagnostic testing and detailed records are integral to the role.

The ideal candidate holds a Diesel Mechanic qualification (Red seal - Merseta approved), matric and a Code 10+ driving license. Travel readiness and strong communication with customers are essential.

Qualifications

  • Matric is required.
  • Diesel Mechanic qualification (Red seal - Merseta approved) is compulsory.
  • Valid driver’s license (Code 10 or higher advantageous).
  • Strong diagnostic skills to identify complex mechanical issues and strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics and electrical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel-powered heavy vehicles focusing on engines, transmissions, brakes and electrical systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes and component replacements to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Run diagnostic tests, interpret results, and maintain detailed repair records.
  • Repair or replace engines, transmissions, brake systems and steering mechanisms.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, including fluid changes and inspections.
  • Maintain detailed service records and work orders.
  • Test-drive trucks to ensure safe, functional operation.
  • Explain repair needs and costs to customers.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, organized work environment.
  • Ensure quality checks and processes are adhered to throughout.

Desired Experience & Qualification
  • Matric
  • Diesel Mechanic qualification compulsory (Red seal - Merseta approved)
  • Valid driver's license (code 10 or higher will be advantageous)
  • Strong diagnostic skills to identify complex mechanical issues and strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
  • Skilled in using heavy-duty diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and precision instruments
  • Strong interpersona and communication skills
  • Minimum of 5 years working experience in a qualified Diesel Mechanic position in the truck/ automotive industry
  • Must have extensive truck and truck parts knowledge
  • Medically fit
  • Computer literate
  • Willing to travel
  • Fully bilingual
