Job summary

Van der Vyver Transport is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team in the Western Cape. You will inspect trucks, diagnose issues, and perform repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, and steering systems to keep refrigerated fleet running smoothly.

The role requires 2–4 years of relevant experience, code 8 driver’s license, and the ability to work after hours and on weekends. A safe, efficient work environment and accurate service records are essential.

Qualifications

• Qualified Diesel Mechanic as required.
• General Auto Electrical Experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of Thermo King diesel cooling unit engines beneficial.
• Experience with Volvo trucks advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Inspect trucks to identify mechanical issues and interpret diagnostic results.
• Repair and replace faulty mechanical, electrical, and electronic components in engines, transmissions, braking systems, and steering mechanisms.
• Perform vehicle maintenance and repairs in line with service standards and within set timeframes.
• Maintain detailed records of inspections and repairs for each vehicle.
• Complete job cards and parts requisitions accurately.
• Attend to breakdowns promptly to minimise downtime.
• Promote a safe, clean, and organised work environment in compliance with OHS Act and SHEQ standards.
