Job summary

ALLCON FABRATION AND ENGINEERING (PTY) LTD is hiring a Quality Control Inspector to ensure compliance with client specifications and ISO 9001 standards within the fabrication workshop. You will inspect welding, machining, painting and assembly, maintaining traceability and audit-ready documentation.

The role emphasises first-time quality, timely inspections, NCR management and continuous improvement across multiple projects, requiring attention to detail and strong communication with production

Qualifications

• A relevant qualification or trade certification in Quality Control, Welding Inspection, Mechanical/Fabrication Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience in a QC Inspector role within a fabrication, welding, or engineering manufacturing environment.
• Working knowledge of applicable fabrication codes and standards, welding inspection principles, and ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.

Responsibilities

• Inspect fabrication, welding, machining, painting, and assembly work to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and quality requirements before progressing to the next production stage or dispatch.
• Achieve target inspection accuracy and minimize major defects and rework.
• Raise NCRs immediately when required and complete root cause investigations with timely corrective actions.
• File MTCs, COCs, and welding records and ensure documentation is audit-ready at all times.
• Communicate inspection outcomes to Production and Project Management within 24 hours; respond to technical queries promptly.

Position Quality Control (QC) Inspector

Reporting To QA/QC Manager

Location Fabrication & Engineering Workshop

1. Purpose of the Position

The Quality Control (QC) Inspector is responsible for inspecting, verifying, and documenting all fabrication, welding, machining, painting, assembly, and final inspection activities to ensure compliance with client specifications, engineering drawings, applicable codes and standards, and the company's ISO 9001 Quality Management System.

The QC Inspector plays a critical role in preventing defects, reducing rework, ensuring traceability, and maintaining customer confidence through consistent quality assurance throughout the manufacturing process.

2. Key Responsibilities

2.1 Inspection Accuracy & First-Time Quality

Inspect fabrication, welding, machining, painting, and assembly work to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and quality requirements before progressing to the next production stage or dispatch.

Achieve 98% inspection accuracy with zero escaped major defects and less than 2% rework due to inspection oversight.

Promote first-time acceptance of inspected work wherever possible.

2.2 Inspection Turnaround Time

Complete 95% of inspections within the required production schedule to support production flow without compromising quality.

Attend hold points as planned and ensure inspection availability does not cause production delays.

2.3 NCR Management & Corrective Actions

Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) immediately when required and complete root cause investigations.

Ensure 95% of corrective actions are closed within agreed timeframes.

Support preventive actions to reduce repeat NCRs.

2.4 Documentation & Traceability

Complete 100% of inspection reports and ensure documentation is audit-ready at all times.

File Material Test Certificates (MTCs), Certificates of Conformance (COCs), and welding records correctly where applicable.

Submit inspection records daily and complete quality data packs before project close-out.

2.5 Communication & Production Support

Communicate inspection outcomes to Production and Project Management within 24 hours.

Respond promptly to technical queries and elevate quality issues immediately.

Provide positive, constructive support to workshop personnel.

2.6 Attendance, Conduct & Compliance

Maintain a minimum of 98% on-time attendance each month with no unauthorized absences or repeated late arrivals.

Comply fully with company policies, procedures, the Code of Conduct, Safety Rules, and Disciplinary Code.

Maintain professional conduct, honesty, integrity, and accountability, and immediately report misconduct, unsafe acts, or procedural breaches.

2.7 Internal Communication & Teamwork

Acknowledge internal emails, Microsoft Teams/WhatsApp messages, or direct requests within 1 working hour (or by the start of the next working day if received after hours).

Foster cooperation, mutual respect, and support between colleagues and departments, maintaining a supervisor/teamwork rating of at least 4 out of 5.

Attend 100% of scheduled meetings, or provide prior notice if unable to attend.

2.8 Continuous Improvement

Identify and implement a minimum of two quality or process improvements annually.

Contribute to reducing recurring NCRs, improving inspection checklists, standardising quality documentation, and enhancing traceability systems.

4. Requirements & Competencies

Qualifications & Experience
