Job summary

Rand Refinery (Pty) Limited in Johannesburg is seeking a Projects Manager to lead capital projects from concept to close-out, ensuring delivery within budget, schedule and quality targets. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will manage budgets, coordinate contractors, and uphold SHEQ standards while driving plant efficiency and reliable maintenance.

This fixed-term contract (18 months) requires strong governance, risk management, and a continuous improvement mindset to optimise throughput

Responsibilities

• Manage budget establishment and submission based on projects scoped and costed according to User Requirement Specification and customer brief (Budget accuracy).
• Ensure all projects follow the Capital Stage Gate process from concept to close-out at Rand Refinery.
• Manage contractors and other affected parties under direction of the Engineering Manager to deliver safe, optimal and timely solutions.
• Ensure technical solutions enable targeted plant efficiency and productivity.
• Provide technical solutions considering maintenance requirements to facilitate effective repairs and maintenance.
• Champion continuous improvement of systems and processes to increase throughput, reduce utility consumption and maintenance effort.
• Oversee SHEQ management to protect equipment, machinery, people and products from risk, and address hazards promptly with risk assessments.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The purpose of this role is to execute the capital plan within agreed and approved budget, schedule, and quality parameters. The project manager directs and manages contractors with the specific objective to provide safe, timely and efficient solutions.

SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDED BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• Manage budget establishment and submission based on projects that are scoped and costed according to the User Requirement Specification and as set out by the customer (Budget accuracy).
• The Project Manager is to ensure that all projects assigned follow the Capital Stage Gate process at Rand Refinery from concept, initiation, feasibility, final design, execution, hand over to the customer for beneficial occupation of the asset, and finally, project close-out.
• Manages contractors and other impacted parties, under direction of the Engineering Manager, with the specific objective to provide a safe, optimal, timely and efficient solution.
• Ensure that the technical solutions provided enable targeted plant efficiency and productivity.
• Provide technical solutions considering various maintenance requirements that facilitate effective repairs and maintenance.
• Continuous improvement of systems and processes by identifying and suggesting alternative solutions that increase throughput, reduce utility consumption, and reduce the maintenance effort.
• Responsible for SHEQ management by ensuring that equipment, machinery, people and products are protected from risk and harm. This includes identifying and addressing hazards promptly, conducting risk assessments for all solutions provided.
• Effectively manage the contractors in line with SHEQ standards and processes for Rand Refinery site.
