Job summary

Network Finance seeks a commercially astute Project Finance Manager for Johannesburg East to support large-scale, technically complex mining projects. You will navigate the intersection of finance, engineering and operations, providing financial insight to guide decisions and improve performance.

Responsibilities include budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis and reporting to keep capital projects financially controlled throughout their lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Must have 7+ years in project finance, project controlling or similar environment.
• Strong budgeting, costing, forecasting and cost control experience.
• Ability to collaborate with project managers, engineers and operations teams.

Job description

Our client, a globally recognised leader in the mining industry, is seeking a commercially astute Project Finance Manager to support large-scale, technically complex projects based in Johannesburg East.

This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of finance, engineering and operations, providing the financial insight needed to guide project decisions and improve performance.

From budgeting and forecasting to cost analysis and reporting, you will help ensure capital projects remain financially controlled throughout their lifecycle.

The ideal candidate is analytical, commercially minded and confident engaging with project and engineering teams to challenge variances, identify cost-saving opportunities and turn financial data into actionable business insights.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead project budgeting, forecasting and cost management activities to support effective financial planning and control.
• Analyse project performance and prepare weekly and monthly forecasts, cost reports, capital expenditure reports and variance analyses.
• Partner with project managers, engineers and operational teams to assess financial performance and improve cost efficiency.
• Monitor financial controls and support internal and external audit requirements across project activities.
• Develop dashboards, reporting tools and performance insights to improve visibility and the quality of financial decision-making.
• Identify opportunities to enhance reporting processes, improve plant efficiency and optimise total cost of ownership.

Minimum Requirements

• BCom Honours degree.
• CIMA qualification will be advantageous.
• At least 7 years’ experience in project finance, project controlling or a closely related environment.
• Strong experience in project budgeting, costing, forecasting, financial analysis and cost control.
• Proven ability to work alongside project managers, engineering teams and operational stakeholders.
• Experience with reporting tools such as QlikView, Power BI or similar platforms; exposure to project management systems is required, with SAP experience advantageous.
• Strong analytical, report-writing and communication skills, with the ability to translate operational data into meaningful financial recommendations.
