About the Role

Our client, a leading independent power producer (IPP) committed to expanding South Africa's renewable energy capacity, is seeking a proactive and results-driven Project Developer specializing in renewable energy. This position is based in Upington, Northern Cape , and offers a fully remote work arrangement, allowing you to manage projects and connect with stakeholders from anywhere within the country. The Project Developer will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and securing new renewable energy project opportunities, from initial site assessment through to financial close. This includes market analysis, stakeholder engagement, securing land rights, and coordinating with technical, legal, and financial teams. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of the renewable energy market, excellent negotiation skills, and a proven ability to bring complex projects to fruition. You will be instrumental in driving the growth of our client's project pipeline and contributing significantly to the clean energy transition in South Africa . We are seeking an entrepreneurial individual who can navigate the development lifecycle effectively and build strong relationships across various sectors. This role demands strategic thinking, commercial acumen, and a passion for sustainable energy.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and assess potential sites for new solar, wind, and other renewable energy projects.
• Conduct market research and feasibility studies to evaluate project viability and potential returns.
• Engage with landowners, community leaders, and local government officials to secure project approvals and land rights.
• Lead negotiations for Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and other project-related contracts.
• Coordinate with engineering, environmental, and legal teams throughout the project development lifecycle.
• Develop and manage project budgets and financial models.
• Prepare investment proposals and secure financing for projects.
• Represent the company in industry forums and engage with regulatory bodies.
• Monitor project progress and ensure timely achievement of development milestones.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus.
• A minimum of 6 years of experience in renewable energy project development, with a strong track record of successfully closing projects.
• In-depth knowledge of the renewable energy sector, including market dynamics, technologies, and regulatory frameworks in South Africa.
• Proven experience in site assessment, land acquisition, PPA negotiation, and financial modeling.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong understanding of project finance and investment appraisal.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects concurrently in a remote setting.
• Strategic thinking and a proactive, entrepreneurial mindset.
