Job summary

Vish Services (Pty) Ltd seeks an experienced Structural Engineer to oversee multiple projects on a 2-year renewable contract. The incumbent will be the first point of contact for structural works, ensuring compliance with plans, specifications and schedules, while coordinating with design teams and contractors.

Responsibilities include site supervision, reviewing contractor outputs, preparing reports, and managing QA/QC in line with ISO standards.

Qualifications

• BEng or BTech in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• ECSA registration or active Pr. Eng application desired.
• Minimum 5 years as structural engineer on projects like reservoirs, intakes and water structures.

Responsibilities

• Resident engineering functions as per FIDIC contracts.
• Oversee engineers and inspect materials; prepare progress reports.
• Ensure compliance with plans, specs, quality processes and schedules.
• Review contractor works and approve per design specs; address RFIs.
• Prepare site instructions and attend to RFIs and requests.
• Carry out site supervision for short and long durations; travel as needed.
• Engage in CPD and maintain professional accreditation.
• Monitor installations and ensure standards compliance.

Job description

Vish Services is looking for an experienced Structural Engineering to oversee various of our structural projects on a 2 year renewable contract. To be the first point-of-call for structural works on the project. They should excel in teamwork, be highly organised and able to define the project scope.

Responsibilities

• Resident Engineering functions as outlined in FIDIC based contracts.
• Working knowledge on bulk pipelines, Reinforced Concrete Construction
• Ensure compliance to all plans and specifications and identify all errors in plans
• Oversee working of all engineering personnel and inspect all materials and assist to resolve all construction process and recommend improvement to all construction activities and ensure compliance to specifications and construction schedule and prepare all progress reports.
• Resolve client and design engineer questions within required timeframe and help contractor
• Review works of the Contractor and approve based on design specification and specified/standard quality processes
• Monitor all proactive activities and installations of equipment.
• Incumbent is expected to carry out site supervision of construction works for short and sometimes long durations on sites as follows:
• Ensuring compliance with design/specifications and standards
• Ensuring compliance with programme and all knowledge areas
• Preparing reports
• Issuing of Site Instructions (SIs)
• Attending to Requests for Information (RFIs) from the contractor
• Do any ad-hoc office or site duties as assigned by the Resident Engineer.
• Engage in activities which contribute to personal CPD (Continuous Professional Development) and maintain professional accreditation.
• Monitor all proactive activities and installations of equipment.

Requirements

Skills and Qualifications:

• BEng (Civil/Structural Engineeringl) or BTech (Civil/Structural Engineering)
• Professionally registered with ECSA or proven to have already applied for ECSA Pr. Eng registration
• 5 years as engineer on structural engineering (i.e. Reservoirs, Intake and Water Retaining Structures and Pump Stations) with min 5 years applicable design experience.
• Knowledge, understanding and application of software Etabs, Prokon, MS Office ,MS Project and Drafting software
• Understanding of quality management system ISO 9001
• Legal knowledge of contracts and related laws
• Knowledge of design compliance standards
• Drivers Licence is essential
• Ready to travel and supervise other structural works on company projects sites

The contract is 2 years with an option to be permanent after 2 years
