Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) including trucks and trailers, adhering strictly to all traffic laws and company policies.
• Plan and execute delivery routes efficiently to meet scheduled deadlines, ensuring optimal fuel consumption and minimal downtime.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure they are in good working order, reporting any mechanical issues promptly.
• Load and unload goods as required, ensuring proper securing of cargo to prevent damage or shifting during transit.
• Maintain accurate records of deliveries, mileage, fuel consumption, and any incidents or delays encountered.
• Provide exceptional customer service during delivery and pick-up, representing the company professionally.
• Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols, including those related to load security and personal protective equipment.
• Manage delivery schedules and adapt to unforeseen circumstances such as traffic or weather conditions.
• Communicate effectively with dispatch and logistics management regarding delivery status, potential issues, and route adjustments.

Requirements

• Valid South African Code 10 driver's license with a PDP (Professional Driving Permit).
• Minimum of 3 years' proven experience as an HGV driver, preferably with experience in long-haul or regional deliveries.
• Clean driving record with no major traffic violations.
• Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual tasks, including loading and unloading where necessary.
• Strong knowledge of road networks in and around Pietermaritzburg and surrounding provinces.
• Familiarity with vehicle maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends or public holidays if required.
