Job summary

Boardroom Appointments is seeking a skilled Maintenance/Process Engineer to design layouts and processes within a manufacturing environment. The role requires a strong understanding of production costs, waste, downtime and re-work, with emphasis on lean practices and safety compliance.

The successful candidate will lead maintenance activities, drive uptime, manage spares, audits, and continuous improvement, while mentoring apprentices and collaborating across departments to achieve KPIs.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years work experience in manufacturing or similar role.
• Ability to design processes and layouts.
• Understanding of production costs including waste, downtime, scrap and re-work.
• Familiar with lean manufacturing and quality requirements.
• Knowledge of Health and Safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Ensure equipment is set up and produces according to Quality Control specs.
• Lead preventative maintenance, breakdowns, uptime and safety projects.
• Comply with quality, health, safety and environmental legislation and requirements.
• Monitor in-process quality and address issues.
• Manage critical spares and cost control.
• Conduct audits and document control.
• Analyze recurring breakdowns and prepare job cards.
• Ensure equipment and processes comply with current standards.
• Support installation and validation of new equipment.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provide reporting to line management and meet KPIs.
• Train apprentices and provide expertise to trainees.
• Collaborate with internal departments, suppliers, and customers.

Job description

• Commitment to work towards professional accreditation with an industry related body.
• Minimum of 5 years work experience in a manufacturing environment or similar role
• Ability to design processes and layouts.
• Understanding of production costs to include waste, downtime, scrap and re-work.
• Work under minimal supervision with frequent work reviews
• Excellent understanding of manufacturing processes
• Excellent understanding of engineering, scientific and other technical information
• Understand lean manufacturing.
• Uses basic concepts and techniques of the profession.
• Understanding of Health and Safety practices
• Good understanding of customer deliverables and the impact of failure/cost of poor quality

Responsibilities:

• Ensure all manufacturing equipment is set up and produces product according to established Quality Control specifications and standards.
• Lead the execution of preventative maintenance, breakdowns, plant uptime and Safety projects
• Ensure any statutory legislation and/or quality system requirements are adhered to with regards to process changes and equipment modifications
• Continually monitor in-process quality, addressing issues as needed.

• Ensure that all existing and new equipment and processes are operated in compliance with all current Quality Control, Health and Safety and Environmental legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Ensure all equipment is maintained as assigned, and in accordance with requirements detailed on the appropriate schedule/plan or work instruction, ensuring the minimization of downtime within planned costs for repair and spares.
• Support the installation and validation of new equipment and technology and ensure a smooth and acceptable transfer to production.
• Undertake special projects and contribute to continuous improvement activities as required.
• Support and participate in process improvement activities.
• Reporting and provide information to line management.
• Achieve goals within budget.
• Plan projects or subtasks so that they may be tracked in line with budget and agreed timeframes.

• Work, liaise and utilize good effective communication with a range of internal departments, external suppliers, service providers and customers.
• Ensure that contractors are utilized in accordance with the Company procedures.
