Job summary

Volvo Group Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd is seeking a skilled engineer to provide technical support to the sales function, ensuring product suitability and optimized production and delivery processes. You will develop specifications, support internal teams, and manage orders and configurations for Volvo Trucks in Southern Africa.

Responsibilities

• Technically supporting product and sales teams in VGSA to ensure local product offers align with Volvo Trucks strategies and market conditions.
• Develop specifications for new product offerings in line with legal requirements.
• Support internal VGSA with product, segment, and market knowledge; Product performance and new projects.
• Support the Sales Team with specialized configurations.
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders and with Pro builder on market requests.
• Manage introduction of local Customer Adaptation solutions to Durban Plant and advise on discontinuations where necessary.
• Check configurations for confirmed deals before order planning and manage order book quality.
• Monitor production slots and coordinate orders/changes with International Manufacturing Durban Plant & Technical Sales Support Centre.
• Input technical information on marketing material and identify new homologation requirements for orders.
• Manage transport and vessel bookings for CBU orders and provide product & systems training to VGSA & Africa.
• Communicate updates & restrictions and support marketing events.

Purpose of the Role:

To provide technical support to the sales function to ensure product suitability and optimized production and delivery processes to support business objectives.

Reporting: This position reports to Senior Manager Product Support.

Job Objectives:

• Technically supporting product and sales teams in (VGSA) Volvo Group Southern Africa to ensure that local product offers align with Volvo Trucks strategies as well as market expectations and operating conditions.
• Develop specifications for new product offering in line with legal requirements.
• Supporting internal VGSA organization with product, segment, unique specifications, Product performance, new projects, and industry knowledge
• Support the Sales Team with specialized configurations.
• Liaison with internal and external stakeholders.
• Liaison with Pro builder regarding market requests and changes.
• Manage introduction of local Customer Adaptation solutions to Volvo International Manufacturing Durban Plant and recommend discontinuation where necessary.
• Checking of configurations for confirmed deals before order planning.
• Manage order book quality, monitor production slots, ordering and co-ordination of orders and order changes with (International Manufacturing Durban Plant & Technical Sales Support Centre ).
• Manage input of technical information on marketing material.

• National Diploma in Mechanical/ Industrial Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of technical post-qualification experience in the automotive industry (essential).
• Exposure to heavy vehicles and their components.
• Good understanding of Automotive market developments.
• Automotive and vehicle application knowledge.
• Vehicle legislation application.
• Heavy automotive technical knowledge (essential; intermediate).
• Systems and processes (essential; intermediate).
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.
