Job summary

Palabora Mining Company is seeking a procurement professional to source products and services using Best Price and robust contract practices to maximize value. You will negotiate contracts, manage supplier relationships, perform spend analyses, and ensure SHEQ compliance while supporting local B-BBEE initiatives.

Key duties include contract administration, market research, and regular reporting to management.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in procurement/contracting within mining, engineering, or industrial settings.
• Diploma or degree in Commercial, Supply Chain Management or engineering.
• Professional membership or progress toward CIPS/SAPICS advantageous.
• Advanced computer literacy, particularly MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Provide ethical, professional contract management and procurement services.
• Negotiate processes, price increases, and advise on contract awards.
• Ensure contractor/vendor control on/offsite and establish site suppliers.
• Interview suppliers, perform market research and assess credibility.
• Perform spend analysis on commodities and monitor budget usage.
• Develop local B-BBEE suppliers and support local enterprise programs.
• Ensure contract variations are authorised and aligned to legal framework.
• Prepare regular information and market-trend reports for management.
• Monitor contract expiry dates and implement new contracts.

Job description

The incumbent will be responsible for sourcing of required products and services for the business using “Best Price”, professional procurement tools and techniques in order to leverage maximum value for the business.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Providing an ethical and professional contract management/facilitation and supply chain management service in terms of the Company contract Management procedures for goods and services.
• Negotiating process, price increase and make recommendations for contract award to Management and Tender Committee.
• Ensuring adequate contractor/vendor control on and offsite and establishing site suppliers.
• Interviewing potential suppliers, conducting market research as well as research on company’s reliability and credibility.
• Performing spend analysis on commodities.
• Identifying opportunity for improvement towards achieving a goal of 80% contract purchases.
• Preparing regular information and reports to management in terms of market trends commodity cost drivers with associated cost control strategies.
• Following up on expiry dates of contracts and implementing new contracts.
• Ensuring all contract variations (extensions, price increase, terminations) are properly authorised and aligned to the legal framework.
• Continuously conducting research on commodities with the objective of adding value through continuous improvement that may reduce total cost of ownership on contracts.
• Collaborating with the Transportation department in order to develop 100% local B-BBEE companies.
• Implementing strategies and setting aside programs and projects for promotion of HDSAs or the entities to partake in the country’s economy.
• Continuous benchmarking of contracts against world class practices in order to improve processes & procedures and ensure efficiencies to the company operations.
• Conducting internal and external audits to service providers.
• Educating and ensuring customer and supplier’s compliance in terms of company policies and procedures.
• Management of daily workflows, placement of orders and expediting of purchase orders.
• Preparing regular informative reports.
• Monitor, analyse and control budget utilization on contracts.
• Adhering to all SHEQ Palabora standards.

Qualifications and Experience:

• National Diploma/ Bachelor’s degree in Commercial, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or equivalent.
• Professional membership or progress toward certification with bodies such as CIPS, SAPICS, or similar will be advantageous.
• Advanced computer literacy, particularly in MS Office applications.
• Relevant experience and knowledge of Procurement and contract practices.
• Exposure to supplier and vendor database management is desirable.
• Minimum of 3 years’ relevant finance experience within a mining, engineering, or industrial environment.
