Job summary

Palabora Mining Company is seeking a procurement professional to source required products and services, manage contracts and drive value through best-price practices. You will negotiate terms, control contractors, and perform spend analyses to optimize contract purchases.

You will also monitor contract variations, ensure adherence to policies, and prepare management reports on market trends and cost drivers, while supporting local supplier development and BBBEE initiatives.

Qualifications

• National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Commercial, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or equivalent.
• Professional membership or progress toward certification with bodies such as CIPS or SAPICS advantageous.
• Advanced computer literacy, particularly MS Office.
• Relevant experience in Procurement and contract practices in mining/industrial environments.

Responsibilities

• Sourcing required products and services using best-price and professional procurement tools to maximise value.
• Provide contract management/facilitation and supply chain services per company procedures.
• Negotiate processes, price increases and recommend contracts for award.
• Ensure contractor/vendor control on and offsite and establish site suppliers.
• Perform spend analysis and identify opportunities to improve to 80% contract purchases.
• Prepare regular information and reports on market trends and cost drivers.
• Monitor contract expiry, variations and align with legal framework.
• Educate customers and suppliers on company policies and procedures.
• Manage daily workflows, orders placement and expediting purchase orders.
• Monitor and control budget utilisation on contracts.

Job description

The incumbent will be responsible for sourcing of required products and services for the business using “Best Price”, professional procurement tools and techniques in order to leverage maximum value for the business.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Providing an ethical and professional contract management/facilitation and supply chain management service in terms of the Company contract Management procedures for goods and services.
• Negotiating process, price increase and make recommendations for contract award to Management and Tender Committee.
• Ensuring adequate contractor/vendor control on and offsite and establishing site suppliers.
• Interviewing potential suppliers, conducting market research as well as research on company’s reliability and credibility.
• Performing spend analysis on commodities.
• Identifying opportunity for improvement towards achieving a goal of 80% contract purchases.
• Preparing regular information and reports to management in terms of market trends commodity cost drivers with associated cost control strategies.
• Following up on expiry dates of contracts and implementing new contracts.
• Ensuring all contract variations (extensions, price increase, terminations) are properly authorised and aligned to the legal framework.
• Continuously conducting research on commodities with the objective of adding value through continuous improvement that may reduce total cost of ownership on contracts.
• Collaborating with the Transportation department in order to develop 100% local B-BBEE companies.
• Implementing strategies and setting aside programs and projects for promotion of HDSAs or the entities to partake in the country’s economy.
• Continuous benchmarking of contracts against world class practices in order to improve processes & procedures and ensure efficiencies to the company operations.
• Conducting internal and external audits to service providers.
• Educating and ensuring customer and supplier’s compliance in terms of company policies and procedures.
• Management of daily workflows, placement of orders and expediting of purchase orders.
• Preparing regular informative reports.

Qualifications and Experience:

• National Diploma/ Bachelor’s degree in Commercial, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or equivalent.
• Professional membership or progress toward certification with bodies such as CIPS, SAPICS, or similar will be advantageous.
• Advanced computer literacy, particularly in MS Office applications.
• Relevant experience and knowledge of Procurement and contract practices.
• Exposure to supplier and vendor database management is desirable.
• Minimum of 3 years’ relevant finance experience within a mining, engineering, or industrial environment.
