Placements24 is seeking a Process Safety Engineer to support remote operations across locations including Durban. The role focuses on advancing process safety programs, conducting risk assessments, and maintaining safety documentation to uphold high safety standards.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with 6+ years of process safety experience in energy or oil and gas, and is proficient in PSM elements, HAZOP, and incident investigations.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client, a leader in the energy sector , is seeking a dedicated Process Safety Engineer to join their team in a fully remote capacity, supporting operations that may span across various locations including Durban . This vital role focuses on ensuring the highest standards of safety in all operational processes, particularly concerning hazardous materials and complex energy infrastructure. You will be instrumental in developing and implementing robust safety management systems, conducting risk assessments, and fostering a strong safety culture across the organization. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive process safety management (PSM) programs.
• Conduct thorough hazard identification and risk assessments (HIRA), including HAZOP studies and LOPA.
• Investigate process safety incidents, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant national and international safety regulations and industry best practices.
• Develop and deliver safety training programs to operational staff and management.
• Maintain process safety information, including P&IDs, PFDs, and safety equipment documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in process safety engineering , preferably within the oil, gas, or energy industry .
• In-depth knowledge of PSM elements such as Management of Change, Mechanical Integrity, and Emergency Planning.
• Experience with risk assessment methodologies and tools.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and report-writing skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote setting.
