Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Process Safety Chemical Engineer to join the Upington safety team. You will lead PHAs (HAZOP/LOPA), develop and maintain PSM programs, and ensure compliance with safety regulations to protect employees and the surrounding community.

The role demands a Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering and at least 5 years in process safety, with strong analytical and communication skills, plus the ability to collaborate across plant departments and drive safety training initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in process safety engineering.
• Strong knowledge of PSM elements, hazard analysis techniques, and risk assessment methodologies.
• Familiarity with relevant safety standards and regulations.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and participate in PHAs such as HAZOP, LOPA, and What-If studies.
• Develop, implement, and maintain process safety management programs and procedures.
• Conduct safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
• Investigate process safety incidents, near misses, and deviations, recommending corrective actions.
• Provide technical expertise on process safety for new projects and modifications.
• Develop and deliver safety training to plant personnel.
• Stay updated on industry best practices and regulatory requirements for process safety.
