Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Process Safety Engineer to join our remote-capable team, supporting chemical and energy clients from SA with occasional site visits near Rustenburg.

You will lead PSM programs, conduct PHAs/LOPA/FMEA, develop safety procedures, and train staff, ensuring compliance with OSHA PSM, Seveso, and API RP 754 while fostering a strong safety culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of process safety experience in chemical or energy industries.
• Familiarity with HAZOP, LOPA, SIL and regulatory standards such as OSHA PSM, Seveso, API RP 754.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Process Safety Engineer to join their expanding operations, supporting their chemical and energy sector clients from a remote capacity. Based ideally within commuting distance of Rustenburg for occasional site visits, this role is critical for ensuring the highest standards of safety in hazardous industrial environments. You will play a key role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating process-related risks, ensuring compliance with stringent safety regulations. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive process safety management (PSM) systems and programs.
• Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies for complex processes.
• Investigate incidents, near misses, and deviations to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Develop and review safety procedures, operating manuals, and emergency response plans.
• Ensure compliance with relevant occupational health and safety regulations and industry best practices.
• Provide training and guidance to site personnel on process safety principles and procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience focused on process safety in the chemical or energy industries.
• In-depth knowledge of HAZOP , LOPA, SIL assessment, and other risk assessment methodologies.
• Familiarity with international safety standards such as OSHA PSM, Seveso Directive, and API RP 754.
• Experience in developing and implementing robust safety procedures and management systems.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively remotely.
