Job summary

Sappi is seeking a Process Relief Operator Uptakes #3 at our Mbombela (Nelspruit) site to support production by relieving operators and ensuring seamless shift handovers. You will operate plant equipment according to SOPs, complete section tasks, and aid during breakdowns while maintaining accurate records and SHEQ compliance.

The ideal candidate holds Matric with Maths and Physical Science or an N3 in Pulp and Paper, and has at least 2 years of operational experience in a manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

• Matric (Grade 12) with Maths and Physical Science or N3 in Pulp and Paper.
• Minimum of 2 years operational experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment.
• Willingness to relieve other operators as required per shifts.

Responsibilities

• Perform shift handovers and operate plant equipment per SOPs.
• Relieve operators across designated positions and perform duties of those roles.
• Complete section-specific tasks, interventions and planned initiatives.
• Assist Foreman and staff during breakdowns and supervise when required.
• Record shift incidents, report equipment faults and maintain documentation.
• Participate in problem-solving, training and safety activities to build competence.

We’re on the lookout for a Process Relief Operator Uptakes #3 to assist production in reducing overtime by providing leave/training relief.
As a Process Relief Operator Uptakes #3, you will be responsible for:

• Perform shift handovers and operate plant equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures and best practices.
• Relieve operators across designated positions and carry out all duties associated with those roles.
• Complete section-specific operational tasks, interventions, and initiatives as planned.
• Assist the Foreman and operating staff during breakdowns and provide support with staff supervision when required.
• Record shift incidents accurately, report equipment faults and breakdowns, and maintain operational documentation.
• Participate in problem-solving initiatives, progress meetings, training, and development activities to build operational competence.
• Comply with all Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) requirements by identifying hazards, taking corrective action, and following company procedures.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and actively contribute to a safe and efficient working environment through regular safety observations.
• Prepare and Support Plant Start-Up and Operational Activities.
