Placements24 is seeking a seasoned Process Engineer for our mining client in Benoni, Gauteng. The role focuses on optimizing mineral processing to improve recovery, reduce costs, and ensure safety and environmental compliance.

You will analyze operations, design flowsheet modifications, run pilot plant trials, and mentor junior engineers. A strong background in metallurgy or chemical engineering and solid reporting skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in chemical/metallurgical/mining with a strong process focus.
• Master's degree in a relevant field is advantageous.
• Professional registration with ECSA (Pr Eng) is preferred.

About the Role

A globally recognized mining group is seeking a highly competent Process Engineer to join their operations in Benoni, Gauteng . This role is central to optimizing the efficiency, safety, and environmental performance of mineral processing operations. You will be responsible for analyzing, designing, and implementing process improvements to enhance recovery rates, reduce costs, and ensure compliance with industry best practices and regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in metallurgy or chemical engineering, with extensive experience in mineral processing plants. We are looking for an analytical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to operations. Key Responsibilities

• Analyze existing mineral processing operations to identify areas for improvement in efficiency, yield, and cost-effectiveness.
• Design, develop, and implement new process flowsheet modifications and optimization strategies.
• Conduct pilot plant trials and scale-up studies for new or improved processes.
• Monitor key process performance indicators (KPIs) and troubleshoot operational issues.
• Develop and maintain process documentation, including P&IDs, mass and energy balances.
• Ensure processes comply with safety, health, and environmental regulations.
• Collaborate with metallurgists, operations teams, and maintenance personnel.
• Evaluate and recommend new technologies and equipment for process enhancement.
• Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and project proposals.
• Mentor junior process engineers and provide technical guidance.

Requirements

• BEng or BSc in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Mining Engineering with a strong process focus.
• A Master's degree in a relevant field is advantageous.
• Professional registration with ECSA (Pr Eng) is preferred.
• Minimum of 6-9 years of experience in mineral processing and process engineering, preferably within the mining sector.
• Proven experience with various mineral processing techniques (e.g., comminution, flotation, leaching, thickening).
• Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., MetSim, HSC Chemistry, Aspen Plus).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication, report writing, and presentation skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Experience with SHEQ standards and practices in the mining industry.
