About the Role

Our client, a prominent player in the industrial sector, is seeking an innovative and detail-oriented Process Design Engineer to join their team based in Durban. This critical role focuses on the conceptualization, design, and optimization of industrial processes from the ground up. You will be responsible for developing efficient, safe, and cost-effective process flows, selecting appropriate technologies, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations. The ideal candidate possesses a strong theoretical understanding of engineering principles coupled with practical experience in process design and implementation. This is an on-site position where you will collaborate extensively with project teams, equipment suppliers, and operational personnel to bring new processes to life. Key Responsibilities

• Develop conceptual designs and detailed engineering specifications for new industrial processes and modifications to existing ones.
• Perform process simulations and modeling to evaluate design alternatives and optimize performance parameters.
• Select and specify appropriate equipment, materials, and control systems for industrial processes.
• Conduct feasibility studies and cost estimations for proposed process designs.
• Ensure that all process designs comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, including mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers, throughout the project lifecycle.
• Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
• Create detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) and equipment datasheets.
• Provide technical support during the construction, commissioning, and start-up phases of new projects.
• Troubleshoot and resolve process-related issues during operation.
• Prepare technical reports and documentation for design reviews and project completion.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in process design, engineering, and development within an industrial setting.
• Proven ability to develop PFDs, P&IDs, and equipment specifications.
• Experience with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and CAD tools.
• Strong understanding of chemical reaction engineering, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer principles relevant to industrial processes.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and environmental compliance in industrial operations.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and systematically.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
• Ability to work effectively in a project-driven environment and manage multiple tasks.
• A proactive approach to identifying and mitigating design risks.
