Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Principal Mine Geologist based in Queenstown, Eastern Cape, SA, to lead geological modeling, resource estimation, and mine planning. The role demands extensive technical leadership and strategic input across multiple teams.

You will guide junior geologists, ensure data integrity, and drive regulatory compliance (JORC/NI 43-101) while collaborating with mine engineers and metallurgists on major projects. On-site work is required.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Geology or a closely related Earth Science field.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in mine geology, resource estimation, and geological modeling within the mining industry.
• Proven expertise in 3D geological modeling and resource estimation software (Leapfrog Geo, Vulcan, Datamine).
• Deep knowledge of deposit types, structural geology, and exploration techniques.
• Strong analytical and leadership abilities with excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all aspects of mine geology, including resource estimation, geological modeling, and mine planning support.
• Develop and implement geological exploration and evaluation programs.
• Oversee core logging, sample selection, and quality control for geological data.
• Interpret geological data to define ore bodies, estimate resources, and provide input for mine design.
• Ensure accuracy of geological models and resource estimates using industry-standard software.
• Collaborate with mine planning engineers, operations, and metallurgists to optimize resource extraction.
• Provide geological expertise to junior geologists and the wider technical team.
• Ensure compliance with JORC/NI 43-101 and regulatory requirements.
