Placements24 seeks an exceptionally experienced Principal Geotechnical Engineer for a mining client near Randburg, Gauteng. This senior role blends on-site leadership with strategic remote analysis to ensure ground stability in deep-level operations.

You will lead rock mechanics investigations, oversee ground support design, seismic risk planning, and mentor a geotechnical team while collaborating with mine planning to optimize safety and performance. A Pr.Eng.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10–12 years of progressive geotechnical experience in deep-level mining.
• World-class expertise in rock mechanics and numerical modeling.
• Proven experience leading technical teams and managing complex projects.
• Professional registration (e.g., Pr.Eng.) is essential.
• Willingness to travel to mine sites.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex geotechnical investigations with advanced rock mass characterization and modeling.
• Develop and oversee ground support strategies for deep-level mining.
• Conduct seismic hazard assessments and design seismic management plans.
• Mentor and guide the geotechnical engineering team and review major designs.
• Collaborate with senior management to integrate geotechnical considerations into planning and decisions.
