The ideal candidate has 12+ years in process design, deep knowledge of P&ID, HAZOP/LOPA/SIL, and proficiency with Aspen Plus, HYSYS, and Pro/II.

About the Role

Our client, a globally recognized leader in chemical manufacturing and innovation, is seeking an exceptional Principal Chemical Engineer specializing in Process Design to join their esteemed team on a fully remote basis. This senior role requires a visionary engineer to lead the conceptualization and detailed design of complex chemical processes for world-class manufacturing facilities. Key Responsibilities

Lead the development of conceptual designs, front-end engineering designs (FEED), and detailed engineering packages for complex chemical plants. Provide expert technical direction and oversight on process design aspects, ensuring compliance with all codes, standards, and regulations. Conduct and lead process simulations, P&ID development, mass and energy balance calculations, and equipment sizing. Perform rigorous process safety reviews, including HAZOPs, LOPAs, and SIL assessments, and ensure safety measures are integrated into designs. Mentor and guide a team of chemical engineers, fostering technical excellence and professional development. Collaborate effectively with clients, project management teams, R&D, and other engineering disciplines in a virtual environment. Evaluate and select appropriate process technologies and equipment to meet project objectives. Develop technical specifications for equipment procurement and oversee vendor technical reviews. Contribute to strategic planning for future technology development and process improvements. Ensure designs are optimized for operational efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and environmental sustainability.

Requirements

Master's or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution. Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in chemical process design, with a significant portion in a leadership or principal engineer role. Demonstrated expertise in designing a wide range of chemical processes, including continuous and batch operations. Advanced proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS, Pro/II) and CAD tools. In-depth knowledge of process safety management (PSM), risk assessment methodologies, and regulatory requirements. Proven track record of successfully leading complex, multi-disciplinary design projects. Exceptional leadership, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, adapted for remote collaboration. Ability to work independently with a high degree of autonomy and drive for results. Experience with international projects and diverse regulatory landscapes is advantageous. Professional Engineer (PE) registration or equivalent is highly preferred.
