Placements24 is seeking a Principal Automotive Chassis Engineer for our client in Pretoria, Gauteng. You will lead design, development and integration of advanced chassis systems, including suspension, steering and braking, from concept to production.

The role requires deep expertise in vehicle dynamics, structural analysis and leadership to mentor junior engineers while delivering high-performance, safe vehicle platforms.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Mechanical/Automotive Engineering.
• Minimum 12 years in automotive chassis engineering, in lead roles.
• Deep knowledge of vehicle dynamics, suspension and braking tech.
• Proficient CAD/CAE tools: CATIA/NX and ANSYS/Adams.
• Experience with chassis control systems and concept-to-launch leadership.

About the Role

They are looking for a highly accomplished Principal Automotive Chassis Engineer to join their advanced engineering team based in Pretoria, Gauteng. This senior position will be responsible for leading the design, development, and integration of sophisticated chassis systems, including suspension, steering, and braking. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in vehicle dynamics, structural analysis, and a deep understanding of how chassis components influence overall vehicle performance and safety. You will be a technical authority, guiding projects from concept through to production, ensuring the highest standards of engineering excellence are met. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the conceptualization, design, and development of advanced automotive chassis systems (suspension, steering, braking).
• Define chassis architecture and component specifications based on vehicle performance targets and market requirements.
• Conduct rigorous vehicle dynamics analysis and simulations to optimize ride comfort, handling, and stability.
• Utilize FEA and other simulation tools to ensure structural integrity, durability, and lightweight design of chassis components.
• Oversee component testing, vehicle testing, and data analysis to validate performance and identify areas for improvement.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain teams to ensure design feasibility and cost-effectiveness.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level chassis engineers.
• Stay current with emerging chassis technologies, including active and intelligent suspension systems.

Requirements

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 12 years of experience in automotive chassis engineering, with significant experience in a principal or lead role.
• In-depth knowledge of vehicle dynamics principles, suspension design, and braking system technology.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, NX) and CAE tools for structural and dynamic analysis (e.g., ANSYS, Adams).
• Experience with chassis control systems and integration.
• Proven ability to manage complex engineering projects from concept to launch.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Must hold valid work authorization for Pretoria, Gauteng .
