Position: Pre-Sales Engineer
Location: Midrand, Gauteng, South Africa
Reporting to: Chief Commercial Officer, Head of Commercial

Position Overview:

SPEC Africa (Pty) Ltd. is looking for a technically skilled and commercially driven Pre-Sales Engineer to join our team in Gauteng. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing technical and commercial proposals, preparing tenders, quotations and cost estimates, evaluating technical specifications, and designing compliant solutions across security, electronic, electrical, mechanical and infrastructure projects. The role also involves coordinating with suppliers and clients, identifying project risks and supporting successful project delivery.

Responsibilities:

• Develop technical and commercial proposals for security, electronic, electrical, mechanical and infrastructure projects.
• Review specifications, drawings and site conditions; prepare compliant solutions, equipment selections and technical submissions.
• Prepare and price tenders, quotations, bills of quantities and detailed estimates for equipment, labour, subcontractors and maintenance.
• Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations; confirm pricing, lead times and compliance.
• Coordinate technical tender returnables and client clarifications.
• Identify scope, cost and contractual risks; support client presentations and hand over awarded work, budgets and assumptions to project teams.
• Engage with clients to understand and clarify their requirements, and maintain regular liaison throughout the project to communicate progress, address queries and ensure alignment with agreed deliverables.

Competency Requirements:

• Degree or diploma in Engineering or a related discipline.
• Knowledge of engineering estimating, tendering, BOQs, technical specifications and integrated security systems, including CCTV, access control and perimeter protection.
• Ability to interpret drawings and prepare technical documentation using AutoCAD, , Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Project.
• Understanding of procurement, contract requirements, project planning, health and safety, and applicable technical standards.
• Working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 1401 and ISO 45001 management systems.
• Basic knowledge of FIDIC, NEC3, JBCC & GCC contracts
