Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Automotive Powertrain Engineer in Upington to contribute to next-generation propulsion systems. You will design, analyze, calibrate, and test engines, transmissions, and hybrid/electric drive units, optimizing performance and emissions for a diversified vehicle fleet.

Role requires strong theoretical foundation in mechanical or electrical engineering and practical experience in powertrain development, testing, and data acquisition.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
• Proven experience in automotive powertrain development (design, analysis, calibration).
• In-depth knowledge of internal combustion engines, transmissions, or electric/hybrid powertrains.
• Proficiency with powertrain simulation and analysis software.
• Experience with engine/vehicle testing and data acquisition systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; team player.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop components of internal combustion engines, hybrid systems, or electric powertrains.
• Perform performance analysis, simulation, and modeling using tools like GT-SUITE, MATLAB/Simulink, or equivalent.
• Calibrate engine and transmission control units (ECUs/TCUs) to meet performance, efficiency, and emissions targets.
• Conduct experimental testing and validation of powertrain components and systems on test benches and in vehicles.
• Troubleshoot powertrain issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including chassis, vehicle integration, and software engineers, to ensure system compatibility.
