Job summary

DRA Projects is seeking a highly skilled Power Systems Engineer to join our team in Woodmead. The role focuses on designing and analyzing electrical power systems for EPCM/EPC projects, with duties spanning engineering studies, procurement support, site installation, and commissioning.

The candidate will work within multidisciplinary EPC/EPCM teams, supporting projects locally and internationally while ensuring compliance with standards and quality.

Qualifications

  • BTech/degree in Electrical Engineering required or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years in power systems engineering.
  • Experience with protection studies and engineering implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed electrical power systems design and analysis.
  • Conduct power system studies: load flow, short circuit, motor starting, network stability, harmonic analysis, and power factor correction.
  • Carry out protection studies, design and implementation.
  • Provide input for proposals and project documentation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and drafting teams.
  • Review vendor/contractor/consultant design information.
  • Support site teams during installation and commissioning.
  • Assist in managing procurement packages for timely delivery and compliance.
  • Participate in site installation, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Manage red-line drawings and project handover.
  • Support local and international project implementation, ensuring standards and quality.

Job description

DRA Projects is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Power Systems Engineer to join our engineering team based in Woodmead. This pivotal role supports concept, pre-feasibility, feasibility, EPCM, and EPC projects, with a primary focus on the design, analysis, and implementation of electrical power systems for both local and international assignments.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will be technically proficient in power systems engineering and adept at working within multidisciplinary EPC/EPCM project teams. They will provide comprehensive support throughout all project phases-from engineering studies and design to procurement, site installation, and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed electrical power systems design and analysis.
  • Conduct comprehensive power system studies, including:
    • Load flow
    • Short circuit
    • Motor starting
    • Network stability
    • Power factor correction
    • Harmonics
  • Carry out protection studies, design, and implementation.
  • Provide technical input for studies, proposals, and project documentation.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering and drafting teams.
  • Review design information from vendors, contractors, and consultants.
  • Offer engineering support to site teams during installation and commissioning.
  • Assist in managing procurement packages to ensure timely delivery and compliance.
  • Participate in site installation, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Manage red-line drawings, documentation, and project handover processes efficiently.
  • Support project implementation both locally and internationally, ensuring adherence to standards and quality.
Minimum Requirements
  • Degree or BTech in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience within the power systems industry.
  • At least 5 years' experience in protection studies and implementation.
  • Strong expertise in load flow and short circuit studies.
  • Proven experience with large motor start-up studies and network stability analysis.
  • Sound knowledge of power factor correction and harmonics.
  • Experience in energy management systems.
  • Secondary injection testing experience.
  • Hands-on experience with site installation and commissioning activities.
  • General understanding of generator systems.
  • Proficiency in ETAP and/or DIgSILENT software.
  • Experience with protection relays and general PLC programming knowledge.
  • In-depth understanding of high and medium voltage power systems.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer or Professional Engineering Technologist is advantageous.
