Job summary

Smart4 Energy is seeking a Plant Technician to support the operations and maintenance of a large-scale wind farm in the Northern Cape. You will assist with maintenance coordination, contractor management, reporting, and site administration to ensure optimal performance and safety.

The role offers hands-on exposure within a collaborative operations team, with opportunities to contribute to performance monitoring, data analysis, and continuous improvement across wind farm assets.

Qualifications

• National Diploma in Engineering or related technical discipline.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant technical or operational experience.
• Experience in power generation, renewables advantageous.
• Strong MS Office reporting skills.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Afrikaans and/or Xhosa language skills would be beneficial.
• Willingness to learn and develop within wind farm operations and maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Support the Plant Supervisor in ensuring maintenance contractors meet contractual and operational performance requirements.
• Assist with monitoring wind turbine and balance-of-plant performance, including downtime and availability analysis.
• Maintain accurate records of operations and maintenance activities.
• Assist with daily operational reporting and monthly performance reporting.
• Support investigations into equipment failures, defects, and performance issues while coordinating with OEMs and service providers.
• Assist in monitoring site data, alarms, and proactive maintenance activities.
• Provide support for procurement and site administration activities.
• Coordinate meetings, site visits, servicing schedules, inspections, and associated documentation.
• Assist with health and safety processes and compliance initiatives across the site.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and operational efficiency projects.

Our client, a leading owner and operator of utility-scale renewable energy assets, is seeking a Plant Technician to support the operations and maintenance of a large-scale wind farm in the Northern Cape. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands‑on exposure to wind farm operations while working alongside experienced technical and operational teams.

About the Role

Reporting to the Plant Supervisor, you will play a key role in supporting the day‑to‑day operational performance of the wind farm. The successful candidate will assist with maintenance coordination, contractor management, reporting, performance monitoring, procurement support, health and safety compliance, and general operational administration.

Requirements

• National Diploma in Engineering or a related technical discipline, preferably Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant technical or operational experience.
• Experience within power generation, industrial operations, utilities, renewable energy, or a similar technical environment. Renewable energy experience is advantageous.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly in reporting and administration.
• Excellent communication, report‑writing, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Valid driver's licence.
• Afrikaans and/or Xhosa language skills would be beneficial.
• A willingness to learn and develop within wind farm operations and maintenance.
