Job summary

Qualifications

Job description

The role of the Maintenance Planner is to improve work force productivity and quality by anticipating and eliminating potential delays through planning, scheduling, and coordination of maintenance resources, parts, materials, and equipment access.

About the Role

To setup and maintain planned and corrective maintenance strategies to ensure plant and equipment are maintained for optimal production.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for initial screening of incoming work order, identification of scope (what resources are necessary and analysis of required level of planning).
• When necessary conducts field walks to identify and document job requirements.
• Records and identifies specific hazards that will be encountered in the performance of the proposed work.
• Records the estimated required hours of work order tasks, total work order duration and skills required to perform the tasks.
• Plan jobs with appropriate level of detail.
• Ensures equipment and specialized tools required to perform work are available through Purchasing Department.
• Determines and arranges for parts required to perform the work (when no expediter exists).
• Ensure necessary engineering or technical documents, specifications and drawings are available when required.
• Plans parts availability for all projects to increase “wrench time” and maximize efficiency.
• Compiles information into a job package that is ready for skilled trades – clearly communicates with supervisor regarding critical steps in the process.
• Prints and delivers work orders to the skilled trades in conjunction with the weekly work schedule.
• Upon completion of jobs, communicates with skilled trades regarding ideas and procedures that would make future jobs more efficient, when job is done for the first time.
• Coordinates priority setting with the management team – places emphasis on obtaining the input of operations personnel in the setting of priorities, e.g. priority – safety to plant or people.
• Keeps bills of material current required for and physical / functional.
• Accurately measures the maintenance backlog in its various forms and continually maintains not more than 2 weeks’ worth of real-time backlog at all times.
• Ensures that statutory inspections on all plant equipment are properly scheduled on maintenance.
• Responsible for repairing of equipment and parts and control thereof.Ensures all work orders and maintenance log items are closed when work finished.
• Participates in outage planning activities such as scope identification and control, scheduling, coordination, risk assessment, execution and continuous improvement.
• Communicates with contractor the resources directly required on specific work orders assigned to the contractors and the performance expectations of the work order.
• Produces SAP performance related reports for various work centers of the business.
• Compiles monthly maintenance key performance indicators for maintenance manager.
• Does not manage the contractors but ensures that all of the details of the work order are clearly communicated and understood.

Qualifications

• Educational - Desired / Minimum - N6 / National Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical / Chemical / IC) Trade tested Qualified Artisan.
• Minimum Experience (Type and duration) - 3 years plant experience & 6 months OTJ Training.
