Job summary

Chart Industries, Howden South Africa Division, is seeking an experienced EHS Officer in Middelburg to ensure customer sites comply with SHE standards and statutory requirements.

You will conduct risk assessments, audits, investigate incidents, and drive safety rollouts across maintenance and GO sites, requiring a National Diploma in Safety Management and 5 years of EHS experience.

Qualifications

• National Diploma in Safety Management or equivalent is required.
• Grade 12 and SAMTRAC certification are essential.
• SACPMP registration as a safety officer is required.
• At least 5 years’ experience as an EHS Officer.
• Includes incident/accident investigation training.
• HIRA and basic SHE audit training.
• ISO 45001 exposure or certification is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Ensure HSE on maintenance and GO sites meets legal and internal standards.
• Lead safety administration, observe jobs, log safety requests and near-misses, investigate incidents.
• Rollout safety requirements to sites and report progress to management.
• Audit subcontractors before site access and drive corrective actions.
• Assess site risks and write risk assessments and safe work procedures.
• Support SOX compliance and AX controls.

Howden South Africa Division is looking for an experienced EHS Officer (Middelburg) to ensure that the customer sites where Howden staff perform maintenance and installations, comply with SHE standards (internal, client standards & statutory compliance).

What Will You Do?

• Accountable for HSE on the various Maintenance and GO sites to ensure Howden complies legally with its internal procedures.
• Responsible for the safety administration and doing job observations and recording of safety requests/complaints/ near misses and investigating all incidents.
• Accountable for the rollout of all safety requirements to sites and giving feedback about rollout to ensure we comply with our internal safety requirements
• Conduct audits on subcontractors before allowing them onto site, as to determine the level of compliance and suggest corrective action and implantation of action to ensure we compile with our and customer requirements.
• Assessing risk on sites and writing of risk assessments and written safe work procedures to enable work to be done
• SOX Compliance: Adhere to Sarbanes Oxley and AX controls

Your Experience Should Be.

• National Diploma in Safety Management
• Grade 12, SAMTRAC
• SACPMP Registered as a safety officer.
• 5 years of experience as an EHS Officer
• Incident and accident investigation course
• HIRA courseBasic SHE audit course
• Extensive SHE exposure in industrial / manufacturing environment
• Must be computer literate.
• Added advantage - Ergonomics training, ISO 90001 Safety and quality certified, ISO 14000 environmental certified
• ISO 45000 certified.
