Placements24 seeks an accomplished Medical Science Liaison to cover the Gauteng region, including Soweto and surrounding areas. The role focuses on scientific exchange, building relationships with key opinion leaders, healthcare professionals, and research institutions, and disseminating complex clinical information in a non-promotional manner.

You will support medical education initiatives, collaborate with medical, marketing, and sales teams, and travel extensively. A Pharm.D., Ph.D., or M.D.

Qualifications

• Advanced scientific degree required (Pharm.D./Ph.D./M.D.)
• 3–5 years in an MSL or similar role in pharma
• Strong knowledge in Oncology, Cardiology, or Neurology or related fields
• Excellent presentation, communication and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary scientific expert for assigned therapeutic areas and products in Gauteng.
• Identify and engage with KOLs, investigators, and other HCPs to build peer-to-peer relationships.
• Disseminate complex scientific information in a non-promotional manner.
• Respond to unsolicited medical information requests from HCPs.
• Gather and communicate scientific insights, unmet needs, and competitive intelligence to Medical Affairs and R&D.
• Support planning and execution of regional medical education events and advisory boards.
• Identify potential IIS collaborations and support investigator-initiated studies.
• Ensure adherence to company policies, codes of conduct, and regulatory guidelines.
• Collaborate with internal medical, marketing and sales teams to align strategies.
• Prepare and deliver scientific presentations to healthcare professionals and internal stakeholders.

About the Role

Our client, a globally recognized pharmaceutical company, is seeking an accomplished and scientifically driven Medical Science Liaison (MSL) to cover the Gauteng Region, including Soweto and surrounding areas. This critical role serves as a scientific expert, building and maintaining relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), healthcare professionals (HCPs), and research institutions. The MSL will be responsible for disseminating complex scientific and clinical information about our client's products, gathering insights from the field, and supporting medical education initiatives. Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary scientific expert for assigned therapeutic areas and products within the Gauteng region.
• Identify, establish, and cultivate strong, peer-to-peer relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), investigators, and other healthcare professionals.
• Disseminate complex scientific and clinical information regarding our client's products in a non-promotional manner.
• Respond to unsolicited medical information requests from healthcare professionals.
• Gather and communicate relevant scientific insights, unmet medical needs, and competitive intelligence from the field to internal medical affairs and R&D teams.
• Support the planning and execution of regional medical education events and advisory boards.
• Identify potential research collaborations and provide support for investigator-initiated studies (IIS).
• Ensure adherence to all company policies, industry codes of conduct, and regulatory guidelines.
• Collaborate with internal medical, marketing, and sales teams to align medical strategies with business objectives.
• Contribute to the development of medical affairs strategies and materials.
• Prepare and deliver scientific presentations to healthcare professionals and internal stakeholders.

Requirements

• Advanced scientific degree (e.g., Pharm.D., Ph.D., M.D.) in a relevant scientific or clinical discipline.
• A minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Medical Science Liaison or in a similar scientific-liaison role within the pharmaceutical industry.
• Deep scientific and clinical knowledge in relevant therapeutic areas (e.g., Oncology, Cardiology, Neurology - specify if known).
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs).
• Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong understanding of pharmaceutical regulations and ethical guidelines for medical affairs.
• Ability to travel extensively within the assigned territory (Gauteng Region) and occasional national/international travel.
• Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation.
• Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel.
• Proficiency in English; knowledge of local languages relevant to the Gauteng region is advantageous.
