Job summary

Opencast Consulting is seeking a Payroll Assistant Intern to join the HR and Finance team in Durban. This role offers hands-on experience in payroll administration, learning practical skills in a supportive environment.

You will process payroll on a monthly and bi-weekly basis, maintain records, and assist with reports and tax filings. Mentorship and growth opportunities are provided in a dynamic, inclusive company setting.

Qualifications

• A maximum of 1 year of experience in payroll, HR, or a related field (internship or part‑time experience is acceptable).
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Basic understanding of payroll processes and procedures.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
• Proactive, organized, and able to meet deadlines.
• A positive attitude and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in processing employee payroll on a monthly and bi-weekly basis.
• Ensure that all payroll information is accurate and complete.
• Assist with maintaining employee records, including personal details and tax information.
• Help with resolving payroll-related queries from employees.
• Assist in reconciling payroll discrepancies and maintaining payroll files.
• Process and track employee benefits and deductions.
• Support with the preparation and submission of payroll reports.
• Assist with tax filings, compliance, and other related payroll functions.
• Perform general administrative tasks to support the HR and Finance departments.
