Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a veteran Outdoor Recreation Program Leader to design and run engaging programs across diverse landscapes. You will lead excursions, interpret natural and cultural history, and ensure safety and learning outcomes for participants in a remote-capable, field-oriented role.

The role requires autonomy to manage remote teams, develop impactful experiences, and promote environmental stewardship within the Northern Cape and adjacent reserves.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in outdoor recreation leadership and program development.
• Certification in Wilderness First Responder and lifeguard or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of local ecosystems, conservation principles, and outdoor safety.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement a diverse range of outdoor recreation programs (e.g., hiking, camping, nature interpretation).
• Lead groups on excursions, ensuring participant safety, enjoyment, and educational engagement.
• Provide expert interpretation of flora, fauna, geology, and cultural history.
• Manage program logistics including equipment, transportation, and site arrangements.
• Train and mentor junior guides and volunteers, ensuring high delivery and safety standards.

About the Role

Our client, a dynamic outdoor adventure organization with operations extending across various natural reserves, seeks an experienced and inspiring Outdoor Recreation Program Leader . Based remotely but coordinating operations impacting areas near Upington , you will develop and lead engaging outdoor programs designed to connect participants with nature, foster environmental stewardship, and promote physical well-being. This role requires a deep passion for the outdoors, exceptional leadership skills, and the ability to craft impactful experiences for diverse groups. You will play a crucial role in promoting sustainable tourism and outdoor education in the Northern Cape and beyond.

Key Responsibilities
