Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Ensure overhead travelling crane is in good working condition.
• Maintain lifting equipment and slings in good condition.
• Visually check pipe and tube ends for burrs and ensure labels on bundles.
• Coordinate trailers and ensure proximity to storage conveyor.
• Secure straps on bundles before off-loading.
• Off-load storage conveyor promptly to avoid delays.
• Arrange forklift if crane breaks down to prevent mill stoppage.
• Replace full trailers with empty ones by the DC.
• Complete crane and lifting equipment log books daily.
• Assist bundling operator during changeovers and maintain housekeeping.
• Operate remote control and manage batteries timorously.
• Ensure all bundles are handled with care to avoid damage.

Tube & Pipe (Mac City – Elandsfontein) is looking for a dynamic and skilled Operator for the production environment. The successful candidate will ensure safe, efficient offloading of bundles from the storage conveyor onto trailers, maintain lifting equipment and slings in good working order, and support the bundling operator and tube maker during changeovers — all while working safely and independently within a fast-paced production environment.

Requirements

• Grade 12 (able to read, write and speak English)
• Strong co-ordination and physical dexterity
• Valid Crane License (proof of certification required)
• Proven ability to operate an overhead travelling crane, including slinging
• Physically fit, with the ability to remain on your feet for extended periods
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong team player, comfortable working within a team environment

Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensure that the overhead traveling crane is in a good working condition
• Ensure that all lifting equipment and slings are in a good condition
• Visually check pipe and tube ends to ensure no burrs exits, and that labels are securely attached to each bundle being offloaded from the storage conveyor
• Ensure there are sufficient trailers available and that they are parked close to storage conveyor (minimal crane travel)
• Ensure that straps on bundles are secure
• Ensure timely off-loading of storage conveyor, so as not to stop bundle process
• If there is a crane breakdown, arrange forklift to remove bundles and load bundles onto trailers, this is to prevent mill from stopping
• Ensure that full trailers are taken away and replaced with empty trailers by the DC
• Ensure that all documentation (log books are completed) for crane and lifting equipment is completed daily
• Assist bundling operator to set-up bundling process during a changeover
• Assist bundling operator to ensure good housekeeping
• Must work safely at all times (stop, think, plan and do)
• Ensure that the remote control is kept in a good working order and that the batteries are changed timorously
• When transporting bundles and loads ensure that the siren is operated, to make people aware of load
• Ensure all bundles are handled with care, to ensure that bundles are not damaged during transporting, especially against trailer uprights
• Assist Tube maker with change overs on mill
