Placements24 in South Africa seeks an experienced Operations Geologist to support drilling operations in Klerksd, North West. You will interpret well logs, monitor formations, and guide well trajectory decisions in real time, with on-site presence during critical phases and data analysis performed remotely.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's degree in Geology or Earth Science and at least 5 years of Operations Geologist experience in oil & gas, with strong logging, core analysis, and modeling

• Experience providing real-time geological support during drilling operations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide immediate geological support during drilling operations, interpreting well logs, core data, and drilling parameters.
• Monitor wellbore stability, formation pressures, and potential hazards in real-time.
• Make informed decisions regarding well trajectory adjustments, mud weight, and casing point selection.
• Liaise with drilling engineers, mud loggers, and directional drillers to ensure operational efficiency and safety.
• Update geological models and cross-sections based on incoming drilling data.
• Prepare end-of-well geological reports summarizing findings and recommendations.
• Communicate geological risks and recommendations clearly to the drilling team and management.
• Assist in planning future drilling operations and defining geological objectives.
• Ensure accurate data acquisition and quality control of all geological information.
• Participate in post-well reviews to identify lessons learned.
