Job summary

Sabenza IT & Recruitment seeks an Operations Engineer in Pretoria to support enterprise applications, troubleshoot production issues and manage integrations and monitoring in a global IT environment.

You will work hands-on with Java apps, APIs, SQL, logs and observability tools, collaborating with development, infrastructure and business teams to keep services reliable and performant.

Qualifications

• 5–10+ years of enterprise application support experience.
• Strong experience supporting Java applications.
• Production support and troubleshooting experience.
• Experience with REST APIs, JSON and web services.
• Strong SQL querying and database troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with application logs, exceptions and stack traces.
• Hands-on experience with Grafana and Loki or similar monitoring/observability platforms.
• Understanding of JVM monitoring and analysis.
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals including DNS, HTTPS, firewalls and load balancers.
• Understanding of SSO, LDAP and Active Directory.
• Solid understanding of ITIL, Incident, Problem and Change Management.

Responsibilities

• Monitor enterprise applications and ensure health using monitoring tools.
• Investigate production incidents and identify root causes.
• Analyse application logs, exceptions and stack traces.
• Perform transaction tracing to follow issues end-to-end.
• Document initial Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
• Troubleshoot frontend, backend and integration failures.
• Take ownership of incidents from investigation through resolution.
• Support Incident, Problem and Change Management processes.
• Handle major incidents and escalations as required.
• Track SLAs and ensure reliable production services.
• Collaborate with Level 3 development and infrastructure teams when needed.
